My Favourite Book and Film

Literature and cinema play an important role in my cultural interests. They allow me to reflect on society, human behavior and personal identity. Among many works, one book and one film have particularly influenced me:The Stranger by Albert Camus and The Great Beauty by Paolo Sorrentino.

My Favourite Book: The Stranger – Albert Camus

The Stranger by Albert Camus
The Stranger – Albert Camus

The Stranger is a novel written by Albert Camus and it takes place in France. It tells the story of Meursault, a man who lives his life without showing many emotions. He does not react like other people and seems indifferent to what happens around him. Because of this, society judges him and does not understand him. The book talks about themes like the meaning of life, absurdity and freedom. I like this book because the writing style is simple and direct. It made me think about human behavior and the way people are judged by others.

My Favourite Film: The Great Beauty – Paolo Sorrentino

The Great Beauty (or "la Grande Bellezza" in italian) is a film directed by Paolo Sorrentino and it takes place in Rome. It tells the story of Jep Gambardella, a writer who observes the world of high society around him. Through his experiences, the film shows the emptiness and excess of modern social life. I was especially impressed by the beautiful images, the music and the contrast between elegance and decadence. The film also explores themes such as time, art and the search for meaning in life. It is a thoughtful and poetic movie that made a strong impression on me.
